HUTCHINSON - Residents of Reno and McPherson counties are urged to stop by any of three drop-in
information centers to learn the latest details of a major highway enhancement project in the area.
Beginning this weekend, interested persons at the Hutchinson Mall in Hutchinson and the Dillons Grocery
Store in McPherson may stop at their convenience to pick up information about the K-61 enhancement
project and see displays. The center at the mall is open during business hours from Sept. 21 to Oct.
7. The Dillon's drop-in center will be open during business hours from Sept. 21 to Sept. 25.
An additional drop-in center will be open during Santa Fe Days in Inman starting Oct. 12. That center
will be at the Inman Library.
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) and its consultants Wilson and Company, Salina HNTB
Corp., Overland Park and PEC, Wichita, are developing plans to improve K-61 between McPherson and
Hutchinson as part of the System Enhancement Program (SEP) of the 1999 Comprehensive Transportation
Program.
The drop-in centers are being used during the planning phase of the project both to inform the public
of project developments and to invite comments about it. The centers include static displays and
informational materials.
"Residents seem to appreciate stopping by the centers at their convenience to pick up information
about the project," observed Carl Hill, KDOT public involvement liaison. "We have found that the
drop-in centers are an effective way to get information to interested persons. We have new information
to share, so we encourage folks to take a few minutes to visit the drop-in centers.
