HUTCHINSON - Holiday shoppers at the Hutchinson Mall, 1500 E. 11th Street, may wish to take a few
minutes out of their schedules to learn current information about the K-61 Enhancement Project via
the K-61 Enhancement Project Drop-in Center. The center will operate daily during mall hours from
Friday, Nov. 30, through Monday, Dec. 17. The Kansas Dept. of Transportation (KDOT) and its consultants
Wilson and Company, Salina HNTB Corp., Overland Park and PEC, Wichita are developing plans to improve
Highway K-61 between McPherson and Hutchinson as part of the System Enhancement Program (SEP) of the
Comprehensive Transportation Program. The drop-in centers are one of the programs being used during the
planning phase both to inform the public of project developments and to elicit their comments. The
center at the Hutchinson Mall is the first of several to be scheduled at various sites within the
project area during the next two years. The centers include static displays and printed information.
KDOT staff members will periodically be available to answer questions. "By opening a drop-in center
in a high-traffic area such as the Hutchinson Mall during the holiday season, we hope to maximize our
capability to inform the public about developments involving a major highway project," explained
Carl Hill, KDOT public involvement liaison. Area residents with an interest in this highway project may
stop at their leisure to pick up information, leave a comment, or a request to be placed on the project
mailing list.
