The K-61 Enhancement Project Community Advisory Group will meet Thursday, May 16 from 1:00 - 4:00
p.m. at the Dillon Nature Center 3002 East 30th Avenue Hutchinson Kansas. The media and the public
are welcome to observe the meeting, however seating is limited.
The Advisory Group, comprised of community leaders from Hutchinson, McPherson, and Inman as well as
Reno and McPherson Counties, offers opinions on the K-61 highway enhancement project to the Kansas
Department of Transportation (KDOT) and its consultants Wilson and Company, HNTB Corporation, and
Professional Engineering Consultants. It takes no formal votes, nor does it expend public funds.
The meeting agenda includes: a follow-up on issues raised at the last Advisory Group meeting including
an update on the status of the environmental a process, a discussion of local traffic and the
Origin/Destination Survey, a review of the accident analysis conducted by PEC, a discussion of the
Purpose and Need Statement, and a continuation of the discussion on the preliminary corridor concepts.
The K-61 Corridor Location Design Concept Study was selected as one of KDOT's System Enhancement
Program projects. The study examines feasible locations for a four-lane highway, and including the
potential for upgrading the existing two-lane roadway to four-lanes. This study will result in the
selection of a preferred corridor and the completion of the environmental documentation for the project.
